Tips for dancing the waltz

In the waltz there is a leader and one follower. As a result, learning the steps will not be the same depending on your position in the dance. It is customary for the man to be the leader of the waltz and the woman to be the follower. Of course, these are just customs and you might as well reverse the roles.

Both the leader and the follower have basic steps in the form of square and will therefore be not mirror.

Thus, the leader will for example start with step your left foot forward and the follower go then step back with your right foot
